On January 22, 2014, more than 750 young people from the Archdiocese of Boston—our largest contingent yet—will join tens of thousands of their peers in Washington, DC, at the 41st annual March for Life.
This powerful event began as a small demonstration on the day the Supreme Court invalidated 50 state laws and made abortion legal through the historic Roe v. Wade decision. Today, the March for Life is the largest pro-life event in the world, and in all US dioceses, January 22 is observed as a day of prayer for the legal protection of unborn children.
Fr. Matt Williams, Director of the Office for the New Evangelization of Youth and Young Adults (ONE) in the Archdiocese said, “I am overjoyed by the tremendous response of so many young people who desire to accompany their Cardinal in bearing witness to the dignity of all human life, especially the most vulnerable in our society - the unborn.” He added, “I praise and thank God for the gift and powerful witness of all the leaders in our parishes and schools who pour out their lives in service to our young people and who have made this Pilgrimage for Life an important part of their ministry. None of this would have been possible without the support of parents and the youth leaders who have a passionate love for the Lord Jesus, His kids, and His Gospel of Life."
As our youth journey to our nation’s capital, please pray that Mary, our Lady of Life, will guide the ONE office as they carry on the important work of raising up a generation of young Catholics who will be joyful witnesses to life. We also invite you to prayerfully consider helping the ONE office reach even more young people in future years. The March for Life is often cost-prohibitive for many of our youth. A gift of $150 enables one student in need of financial assistance to attend, and donations of all sizes help defray program costs.
