At all times, but in a special way at the time of death, the Church must proclaim the hope in the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The time of death has a special claim on the pastoral solicitude of the Church. The faithful departed are remembered in every Mass that is celebrated. A deceased member of the Church deserves and has a right to the fullness of the Church's funeral rites contained in the Order of Christian Funerals. The bereaved must never be allowed to feel that they grieve alone.
The revised document, which contains Archdiocesan Policy and an Instruction, is promulgated to make the pastoral solicitude of the Church at the time of death more effective.
