Q: What is Ministry with Persons With Disabilities?

The Archdiocesan Ministry with Persons with Disabilities provides pastoral support and technical assistance in the form of resources and training for parish coordinators and all persons and families with disabilities.

Persons with disabilities make up 20 percent of any given population.  This population includes those persons in our parish communities who have developed various disabilities due to accident, illness, or the aging process.  Made in the image and likeness of God, we as a people of God need to make every aspect of parish life accessible to all.

Q:  How does Ministry with Persons with Disabilities assist parishes?

The mission of ministry with persons with disabilities is to support and facilitate the full and active participation of persons with disabilities in the life of the Church. To help make meaningful participation an even greater reality for persons with disabilities in the Archdiocese of Boston, the Archdiocesan Ministry with Persons with Disabilities offers the following assistance:
· Education and training/workshops on disability issues and awareness.
· Assistance in improving access for people with disabilities to the sacramental, liturgical, catechetical, and social areas of Church life in order to increase their participation in parish worship, ministries and activities.
· Technical assistance and support in developing architectural and program access plans.
· Pastoral response and presence to individuals and their families.
· Provide resources of programs and services available to persons with disabilities.
