Palliative Care and Advance Care Planning

The Initiative for Palliative Care and Advance Care Planning is a recently established program of the Archdiocese of Boston.  Its goal is to provide education, outreach and advocacy that will create an informed public about palliative care, a multidisciplinary approach to the care of the seriously ill which is patient-centered and family-oriented.  The program also supports, promotes and provides education about Advance Care Planning which allows people to discuss and make known their wishes for care in anticipation of a time when they cannot speak for themselves.  Most importantly, the Advance Care Planning component of the initiative provides information about how to designate a health care proxy or surrogate decision maker who will be their voice when they can no longer make or articulate their health care decisions.

Training the Trainer: Palliative Care and Advance Care Planning

Location:  Archdiocese of Boston, Pastoral Center

66 Brooks Drive, Braintree, MA 02184

Wednesday, 25 October 2017, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Archdiocese of Boston has an initiative to promote and educate our faith community about palliative care for people of any age who are diagnosed with serious illness.  (Palliative care is not just about care of the dying!)

We are building informational resources for every parish or collaborative community.  These resources include materials about palliative care and advance care planning, but most importantly, small groups of people (3 or 4) -- human resources! – who will be available in each faith community, who have learned general information about this wonderful service, and can provide parish members who are experiencing serious illness themselves or in their families, information about palliative care and some questions or conversation points that they might talk about with their health care providers if palliative care has not already been discussed.  Also, the resource group would schedule annual presentations with the Archdiocesan office for their parishes.

Registration will be from 9:15-9:45 AM to guarantee a prompt start at 10 AM.

A working lunch will be provided.

Your attendance at this workshop does NOT automatically commit you to being a trainer in your parish or collaborative, but it will qualify you to do so, if you are interested.

RSVP required!!   Please CLICK HERE to register.
