Due to declining numbers of clergy, changing Catholic demographics and financial pressure, the Archdiocese of Boston began the process of parish reconfiguration in January of 2004. Through this process, the Archdiocese has sought to serve the needs of area Catholics by building parish communities with resources to match needs. As of September 2005, 62 parishes were closed or merged as part of the reconfiguration process.
Blessed Sacrament Is Closing
A Devout Catholic's Perspective Through Poetry
Quite naturally our hearts are sad,
As we gather together at Mass each day.
To say goodbye to Blessed Sacrament Parish,
Our special place for us to pray.
After many years in the parish fold,
Our church is one that has to close,
But after praying I faced the truth:
Our allegiance is to our religion and not
A parish roof.
So, though I know my heart will grieve,
I'll attend each service before we leave,
Until the day when we depart
With love for God, our new parish,
And faith in our hearts.
