Revitalizing Catholic Education

CatholicSchools_003_150w

Pope Benedict’s statement captures an essential truth of Catholic education. When we provide children with an education in faith, we affect, not only their lives, but also the life of our community. Academic excellence and Catholic values in combination provide young people the tools to excel and the moral compass to guide how they use those tools.

The Catholic School system is the largest private school system in the nation and the only system where a child can enter at age 3 and continue through post-graduate work. In the Archdiocese of Boston, the graduation rate for Catholic School students is 99 percent with 97 percent continuing on to college. They perform above grade level in reading, math, science and social studies.

While our schools continue to produce these excellent results, changing demographics, a difficult economy and lack of financial resources present challenges that must be addressed. Making sure future generations continue to benefit from a Catholic education is a critical priority.

Guided by a commitment to academic excellence and rigor, Catholic identity and mission, and school viability and vitality, we will continue the important work of revitalizing Catholic education.
