Update on Catholics Come Home Initiative

January 18, 2011

Dear Father/Monsignor, Parish Staff, Catholics Come Home parish contacts, and volunteers,

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our friend and colleague David Thorp, who served as Director of the Catholics Come Home initiative for the Archdiocese of Boston since June 2010.  David addressed thousands of clergy and lay leaders about Catholics Come Home.  In cooperation with Catholics Come Home.org, he developed a TV ad that includes scenes of Boston. In addition, he worked with the Catholic Media Secretariat to develop parish resources and a new archdiocesan website, www.CatholicsComeHomeBoston.org.

In order to continue this vital work, Cardinal O’Malley has appointed Janet Benestad, Secretary for Faith Formation and Evangelization, to lead the implementation of the Catholics Come Home initiative.  She will work with members of the Secretariats of Faith Formation & Evangelization and Catholic Media, as well as other Pastoral Center personnel, to execute this campaign, including the critical Evangelization Sunday collection on January 23.

If you have any questions about Catholics Come Home, please contact Janet Benestad at 617-746- 5870/ Janet_Benestad@rcab.org or Cathy Fallon at 617-746-5832/ Catherine_Fallon@rcab.org.

Within the next week, you will be receiving a parish order form for Catholics Come Home Lenten materials.

Thank you.

Fr. Rich

Very Reverend Richard M. Erikson, Ph.D., V.G.
Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia
