What Do You Need To Do Now?

Congratulations on your engagement! This is a very exciting time in your life as you prepare for your wedding AND marriage.

Here is what you need to do in three simple steps:

1. First, meet with the priest or deacon who will oversee your preparation and be the official Church witness at your wedding. Simply start by calling your local parish or the parish in which you would like to get married and ask to schedule an appointment to meet with the priest or deacon. The priest or deacon will then explain the entire marriage preparation process and let you know what you need to do including what is needed for the paperwork, what programs you are to attend and ceremony preparations. Just to let you know, no weddings are scheduled over the phone.

2. Second, attend a Marriage Preparation Workshop. It is important to attend a program AFTER you have met with the priest or deacon as he may have a specific program he would like you to attend (perhaps at the parish itself or one he is familiar with). A schedule of Marriage Preparation Workshops is available at the link to the left.

Programs meet a minimum of two times. One-day programs do not meet the Archdiocesan Guidelines. For each listing on our website, you will find the location first and then the meeting times for that location. In order to attend the program and receive a certificate of completion you must be able to attend all of the dates and times listed below the location. Workshops have a registration fee. Please contact programs directly (through the means they have posted online) for site specific information or to register.

NOTE: We also highly recommend you to attend a Natural Family Planning Course. For more information, please visit: The information in this class is invaluable and will help strengthen your marriage.

3. Third, meet again with the priest or deacon who is overseeing your preparation. You will discuss with him your preparation experiences and work with him regarding other areas of your preparation including ceremony planning.

Again, congratulations! We wish you all the best as you prepare for your wedding AND marriage!
