Teen Center at St. Peter’s

Dorchester, MA

When St. Peter's Parish school in Dorchester's Bowdoin/Geneva neighborhood closed, the youth living in this particularly challenging area lost a critical resource in their community. As part of CCS' efforts to serve these at-risk teens both within and beyond the classroom, CCS teamed up with Catholic Charities to establish a Teen Center in the old boys school on Bowdoin Street. Serving over 150 teens every day, the Teen Center is a safe haven for after-school study, nutrition, and recreation. Offering tutoring, homework help, standardized test coaching, English classes, and school mentoring, these teens are getting the guidance, encouragement, and care they need to stay on the path to academic and life success. The majority of the kids who have attended the Teen Center have stayed in school, graduated, and gone on to college.
