Bishop James Augustine Healy and Robert L. Ruffin Award Recipients

Bishop James A. Healy & Robert L. Ruffin Nominations

The Bishop James Augustine Healy Award Dinner hosted by Black Catholic Ministries within the Secretariat for Evangelization and Discipleship, is held yearly to honor the legacy of the first recognized black bishop in the United States. This year marks the 25th anniversary of this award dinner, this is truly a momentous milestone in the history of Boston and the Archdiocese. The Bishop Healy Award is given to an individual who has demonstrated strong personal faith and compassion. Another award presented at the dinner is the Robert Leo Ruffin Award, named for a prominent black Catholic from Boston, who was one of the main supporters of the first black Catholic Congress held in 1889.
