Director of Music/Organist (FT), Immaculate Conception Parish, Marlborough, MA.

Immaculate Conception Parish in Marlborough, Massachusetts is seeking an accomplished music professional to become our Music Director.

This individual will direct and coordinate all musical needs for the Parish in collaboration with the Pastor.  The Music Director will be responsible for development and enhancement of a robust program that will strengthen faith in the Eucharist through music.

A description of our Liturgical Music Program at Immaculate Conception Parish.

Immaculate Conception Parish is a large, vibrant Catholic Faith Community with over 3,000 registered families, many of whom are young, active families. While our present liturgical life is diverse and prayerful, we are looking, by means of a strong music program, to continue our fine music ministry and enhance our communal worship while strengthening our parishioner’s expression of their faith and their prayer as they encounter the Lord in the Sacred Liturgy. Mass is always celebrated with reverence and with respect to Liturgical standards. 

RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and plan music for four weekend Masses (Saturday Vigil and three Sunday Masses) as well as:
    • Holy Days
    • Holy Week Liturgies
    • Multiple Christmas Liturgies
    • Annual Lessons and Carols
    • Annual Mass of Remembrance in November
    • First Holy Communion Masses
    • Confirmation Masses
    • Thanksgiving Services
    • Provide Organ accompaniment for School Masses (monthly)
    • Funerals (60-75 per year) including, as necessary, meeting with families
    • Weddings (5-12 per year) including meeting with the bride and groom
    • Periodic devotional and seasonal celebrations
    • Provide accompaniment to 3-4 weekend Masses
  • Recruit, coordinate, train and motivate musicians, cantors and choir members
  • Direct the Parish Choir for rehearsals and Choir Mass every Sunday
  • Direct the Children’s Choir at rehearsals and at Family Mass twice a month
  • Direct the Youth Choir (Schola Cantorum) at Rehearsal and Mass seasonally
  • Oversee and assist with the planning for all services that require music
  • Support Religious Education events as required
  • Direct outreach events into the community via performances at other venues as appropriate
  • Oversee care and maintenance of church organs and pianos.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Authentic relationship with our Catholic faith
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Music
  • Strong Organ and Choral skills
  • Ability to sing/cantor a positive
  • Attested musical skills and competencies in Catholic Liturgical celebrations
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Capacity to work well and collaboratively with others
  • Committed to the communal participation in the Liturgy
  • Dependable, responsible, self-motivated and creative

COMPENSATION:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Weddings and funerals are not included in the salary.
