Church Weekend Organist (PT), St. Lucy’s Parish, Methuen

St. Lucy’s Parish in Methuen is looking for a part time permanent Weekend Organist.

Job Description:  

This is a year-round part time position and will be paid on a per Mass or event. Expectation of attendance is for Saturday (4:00) and Sunday Masses (9 &11), rehearsals with the choir and other special services, including (but not limited to) Christmas and Easter. The work is done cooperatively, especially with the Music Coordinator.  As a part of the musical leadership team of the church, the Organist is expected to advocate for the music program.

Job Requirements  

  1. Experience in church worship, with both organ and other music and hymnody (understanding and familiarity with blended worship preferred).
  2. Flexibility to play in blended style services that include all types of worship music.
  3.  Knowledge of the instrument and keyboard ability sufficient to play hymns, songs, and anthem accompaniments.
  4. High degree of competence on organ, and the ability to accompany groups and individuals.
  5. Knowledge of basic music theory and ability to perform simple transpositions or harmonization.
  6. Willingness to rehearse sufficiently to maintain a high quality of music.
  7. Sensitivity and the ability to interact with a variety of people.
  8. Ability to take direction and work as a team member.
  9. Ability to communicate well and in a friendly manner with the church leadership, church choir and orchestra, and members of the congregation.
  10. Desire to maintain a constant program of self-improvement.

Responsibilities:  

  1. Support the church’s worship environment through the well-prepared execution of music presented by the choir, orchestra, and other musicians.
  2. Serve as accompanist for the Choir in regular and special rehearsals and performances as assigned.
  3. Facilitate congregational singing and worship through the excellent execution of hymns and other songs.
  4. Maintain an accurate account of organ needs and maintenance, and notify the Maintenance Dept.
