Confirmation Coordinator-Director of Faith Formation (FT), St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Bridgewater

St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, is an active and growing Parish of over 2900 families in Bridgewater, MA. We are seeking a dynamic faith filled individual to become our Coordinator of Faith Formation for grade 7 & 8, and Confirmation (grades 9 & 10). The Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to develop and administer the parish Faith Formation Program for students in grades 7-10.

The Faith Formation Program at St. Thomas Aquinas continues to address and adapt to the challenges of providing quality catechetical instruction and experiences to both students and parents in our parish.  The foundation of our Faith Formation Program is our belief and love for Jesus Christ and His Church and His command to evangelize.  While centered on students and families, our Faith Formation Program should engage all areas of our parish ministries.  We have approximately 300 students in grades 7-8.  Classes are held September – May at the Parish Center, Sunday to Wednesday.

Direct Report to: Pastor



Working in conjunction with the Coordinator of Faith Formation for grades 1-6, and with the assistance of the Faith Formation Secretary, administrative duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Assure that all registration, sacramental, financial and database records are maintained
  • Provide guidance, direction and oversight to the Secretary of the Faith Formation Program
  • Maintain accurate records associated with sacramental preparation and celebrations
  • Maintain a liaison with the Diocesan Office of Lifelong Faith Formation and Evangelization; Youth Ministry Office; Family Life Office; and Child Advocacy Office
  • Attend Regional Religious Education meetings and trainings at the Archdiocese Pastoral Center and other locations as required
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with the parish’s Coordinator of Youth and Campus Ministry

Program Development and Implementation

  • Work collaboratively with the Coordinator of Faith Formation for grades 1-6
  • Plan and implement a comprehensive Catechetical faith formation curriculum for grades 7 & 8 and Confirmation
  • Meet regularly with the Pastor and Pastoral Team in order to plan, evaluate, provide constructive feedback and set goals and expectations for grades 7-10
  • Create and implement class schedules for grades 7-10
  • Be present for all Faith Formation classes and programs for grades 7-10
  • Be available to parents in order to respond to concerns or issues in a timely manner as required
  • Recruit, train and mentor Faith Formation volunteers
  • Visit classrooms weekly, evaluate teachers’ performance and curriculum implementation and provide feedback, encouragement and course correction as needed
  • Design the program calendars, identifying and scheduling guest speakers, service projects and faith related activities
  • Develop and direct the yearly overnight Confirmation Retreat
  • Organize and encourage youth to participate in a range of parish activities including social activities, service projects and the celebration of the Sunday Eucharist
  • Plan and direct parent meetings and sponsor events
  • Implement and administer the Mass Card Attendance program for Confirmation II students
  • Continue personal and spiritual formation as well as professional growth through reading and conferences as budget allows


  • Must be a practicing Catholic who attends Mass weekly and regularly receives the Sacraments, and possesses a solid knowledge of Catholic doctrine.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and facilitation skills are essential, as is the ability to multi-task and adapt to changes easily.
  • Knowledge of computer programs such as Word and Excel are required as well as a familiarity with social networking tools and their use in ministry
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral / written communication skills.
  • Experience in making presentations and public speaking.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • BA degree in Religious Studies and or recent graduate of Diocesan Certificate Program in Religious Education preferred. Participation in continuing education as it relates to duties performed.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.  Salary will be commensurate with experience.
