It is the goal of the Pastoral Center to remain open during inclement weather unless travel conditions make it hazardous to get to work. Family Life Consultant (FT), Lifelong Faith Formation and Parish Support, Secretariat for Evangelization and Discipleship, Pastoral Center, Braintree

The Family Life Consultant will assist the Director of Family Life and Ecclesial Movements in the Archdiocesan efforts to offer support, trainings, formation and resources for parishes in marriage ministries, natural family planning, separated, divorced and struggling marriages and Baptismal preparation.

Other responsibilities include assisting with the support of ecclesial movements such as, but not limited to, Scouting, Ministry with Persons with Disabilities, CYO athletics, Cursillo, Charismatic Renewal, etc.

This consultant will collaborate with other ministry area teams within the Office for Lifelong Faith Formation and Parish Support to advance the Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan, Disciples in Mission.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with the Director in the overall mission of the OLFFPS.
  • Engage pastors, pastoral teams, and pastoral councils.
  • Facilitate programs, workshops, webinars and events including Transformed in Love marriage preparation, couples team training, mentoring training, and Baptismal preparation team training. Support parishes in their efforts to minister to those who are divorced, separated, or in a struggling marriage. Plan and execute the Golden and Silver Wedding Anniversary Mass.
  • Assist with the collection of data and observance of trends associated with the respective ministries.
  • Provide support for the Witness to Life pilgrimage to Washington, D.C.
  • Serve as an archdiocesan liaison for the various ecclesial movements which includes providing resources, assistance with communication and a connection to other communities.
  • Assist the Catholic Committee on Scouting with religious awards and emblems, communication, annual retreat, Mass, and social media.
  • Provide support and oversight for CYO athletics.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Studies or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Catholic in good standing, who understands and supports the mission of the Church and of the Archdiocese of Boston, including maintaining a lifestyle consistent with Catholic moral teaching, and who accepts the teaching of the Church on human sexuality, conjugal love, responsible parenthood, marriage and family life.
  • Familiarity with Church documents on marriage, the family, human sexuality, including St. John Paul II Theology of the Body.
  • Knowledge of Church teaching and current literature on evangelization, New Evangelization, catechesis, and family life.
  • Ability to articulate Catholic teaching, advise on pastoral needs and program responses.
  • Experience working with the public including handling issues/complaints in a diplomatic manner.
  • Ability to anticipate needs, establish priorities, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate discretion, project a positive attitude, and exercise a high level of professionalism.
  • Strong skills in organizing, multi-tasking, taking initiative and following through in a busy, changing environment.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with a focus on service to others. A high level of energy, creativity and humor.
  • Possess strong communication skills (both oral and written); ability to communicate effectively via email, telephone and webinar.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and presentation/public speaking skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Archdiocese of Boston.
  • Flexible work schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 as well as social networking and presentation tools.
  • Experience with both Macs and PCs. Pays close attention to details.

Physical Performance Elements

  • Position requires the ability to sit, operate a keyboard, speak, lift 20lbs, bend, stoop, stand and reach.
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard for up to 8 hours a day.
  • Ability to sit for up to 8 hours/day.
