February 27, 2014 - Cardinal Appoints Rev. James Flavin Episcopal Vicar for the Central Region*

Flavin2014-500x667  Braintree, MA (February 27, 2014) – Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley has appointed Rev. James Flavin, M.Div., M.A., LMHC, as Episcopal Vicar of the Central Region in the Archdiocese of Boston.  Fr. Flavin‘s appointment is effective March 17, 2014.
Cardinal Seán said, "We welcome Fr. Flavin's return to Boston, where he will oversee a diversity of parishes in the Central Region.  His experience as a Parochial Vicar and as a Pastor at parishes in Boston and Brockton will be helpful as we continue to implement our pastoral plan, Disciples in Mission.   Also, Fr. Flavin's recent service as President of the St. John Vianney Center and prior assignments as Archdiocesan Director for Pastoral Care of Priests and Facilitator of the Clergy Funds will be of assistance in bringing best practices to the work of caring for our priests. Please join me in prayers for Fr. Flavin as he begins his new assignment."
Raised in Billerica, Massachusetts, Fr. Flavin, aged 52, was ordained to the priesthood on June 20, 1987. His education includes M.Div.,Theology from Saint John's Seminary (1987) and an M.A., Pastoral Counseling from Boston College (1998).  His parish assignments have included Saint William Parish in Dorchester, Saint Colman of Cloyne Parish in Brockton, Saint Edward Parish in Brockton, Saint Edith Stein Parish in Brockton and Saint Nicholas Parish in Abington.  Fr. Flavin has also ministered to the Cape Verdean Community.
