February 7, 2014 - The CatholicTV Network to Broadcast the Installation Mass of Bishop Robert Deeley Live*

WATERTOWN, MA (February 7, 2014) Pope Francis has appointed the Most Rev. Robert P. Deeley, J.C.D., Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Boston, as the 12th Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, Maine.

Bishop Deeley’s Installation Mass will be Friday, February 14, 2014, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland. The CatholicTV Network will broadcast the Mass live at 2PM ET. The Installation Mass will be broadcast on CatholicTV and CatholicTV.com.

Bishop Deeley was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Boston on January 4, 2013, at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston. He has served as Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia of the Archdiocese of Boston since September 1, 2011.

Born in Cambridge, MA, Bishop Deeley grew up in Belmont, MA, as the fourth in a family of five sons. Following high school, Bishop Deeley entered Cardinal O’Connell Minor Seminary in Jamaica Plain, MA, to discern a vocation to the priesthood. After two years of college, he received a Theodore Basselin Foundation Scholarship and began philosophy studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., from which he graduated in 1968. In 1972, he earned a degree in Theology (S.T.B.) from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Following a year of continuing studies in theology, he returned to Boston and was ordained to the priesthood on July 14, 1973, at his home parish, Sacred Heart in Watertown, MA.

The Diocese of Portland presently has an area of 33,215 square miles and a population of 193,392 registered Catholics. In addition to its 55 parishes, it has 10 elementary schools, one private elementary school, one diocesan high school and two private high schools.
