Natick, MA – October 25, 2010 - Holy Family Communications is pleased to announce that WQOM 1060 AM Boston will begin broadcasting at 8 a.m. on November 1, 2010. The first program to broadcast on November 1 will be a Mass from the Cathedral of the Holy Cross celebrated by Cardinal Seán O’Malley, OFM Cap., Archbishop of Boston.
Jim Wright, President and General Manager of The Station of the Cross Catholic Radio Network, a division of Holy Family Communications, stated that he is “…eager to proclaim the fullness of Truth with clarity and charity.” WQOM has upgraded the signal strength formerly used by WBIX 1060, relocated the transmitter, and made other technical improvements. When WQOM launches on November 1, the broadcast signal will be 50,000-watts and reach a population of over 5.5 million listeners.
Scot Landry, the Secretary for Catholic Media for the Archdiocese of Boston stated, “Cardinal Seán O’Malley and many of us at the Archdiocese have hoped for years to have a strong Catholic radio presence here. As you know, Boston has been one of the only major media markets without 24/7 Catholic radio. The programming that will run has been proven nationally, and we are happy that Catholics in Boston now will be able to listen to it on November 1.”
The Station of the Cross Catholic Radio Network is a non-for-profit Catholic radio organization that exists to effectively evangelize through radio programming, new media, and community action. They strive to proclaim the Truth revealed in the person of Jesus Christ, handed down by the Holy Spirit through the Magisterium, and laid out for us in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
In the mid 1990’s, while visiting the monastery at EWTN, Mother Angelica, foundress of EWTN, asked Jim and Joanne Wright and Mary Ellen Capece to return home to Buffalo and start a Catholic radio apostolate. They did not have any radio or media experience. After prayerful discernment, The Station of the Cross was started with the goal of bringing Catholic radio to Western New York.
The Station of the Cross began broadcasting as WLOF 101.7 FM Buffalo on August 15, 1999 and is dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. WHIC 1460 AM Rochester, New York, began broadcasting on July 1, 2003. WHIC is dedicated to Our Lady’s Holy and Immaculate Conception. The new Boston station, WQOM, is dedicated to Mary, Queen of Martyrs.
The Station of the Cross Catholic Radio Network broadcasts quality Catholic programming 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It has borne abundant fruit over the past 10 years and we believe that God will continue directing this radio apostolate.
The focus of the Station of the Cross Catholic Radio Network is to fill a hunger within the souls of our listeners by providing excellence in programming with the combination of national shows from EWTN, Ave Maria Radio, Catholic Answers, Son Rise Network, Abundant Life Network, along with local productions (daily masses, recitation of the rosary, holy hours, and devotions).
