May 18 - Quincy Catholic Academy Announces Appointment of Principal*

Quincy, MA – May 18, 2010 -- The Board of Trustees for Quincy Catholic Academy announced the appointment of Ms. Catherine Cameron as Principal.  Ms. Cameron currently serves as Principal of Neponset Campus of Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy.  Quincy Catholic Academy will open at the present Sacred Heart School location in the Fall 2010 serving grades PreK-8.

“Quincy Catholic Academy offers a wonderful opportunity to work with a superb team of teachers, staff, pastors and professionals,” said Ms. Cameron.  “Most importantly we have the chance to serve the community of Quincy and the students and families who are very committed to Catholic education.  I look forward to getting started.”  She added, “I want to thank the entire Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy school community, Fr. Sean Connor and all of the local pastors as well as and the wonderful team at the Neponset Campus for allowing me the chance to serve with them.  It will be difficult to leave such a great school as it was one of the finest experiences of my professional career.  I will continue to pray for the wonderful people I have met in my time there and for the continued success of such a great school.”

Ms. Cameron is a 1978 graduate of Boston College with a degree in Elementary Education.  In 1996 she earned her Masters of Education from Curry College and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from Emmanuel College in 2004.  

Prior to serving as Principal of the Neponset Campus, Ms. Cameron was Principal of St. Mary School in Quincy (2005-2008) and St. Mary School in Winchester, MA (1998-2004).  From 1980-1998 she was a Grade One teacher at St. Brendan’s School in Dorchester.  Since 2005 she has been an Instructor, Graduate Education Program, at Curry College in Milton, MA.

Ms. Cameron is on the Executive Committee of the National Catholic Education Association, representing the New England States.  She also has served this past year as the President of the Archdiocesan Elementary School Principals' Association.  Ms. Cameron’s professional affiliations include serving on the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the International Reading Association.
