December 5, 2014 - Advent Events in the Archdiocese of Boston
Many of our parish communities and offices are getting ready for Christmas. In this season of Advent, here is what is happening within ethnic communities to prepare for the coming of Our Lord. This information is made available through the Archdiocesan Office of Outreach and Cultural Diversity:
" Advent is that sacred season of anticipation and expectation when we are invited to get in touch with the deepest yearnings of our soul: peace, truth, happiness and love. It is a season of looking out for God who comes to meet us and fulfill our yearnings by giving us His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who came that we "might have life and have it to the full" (John 10:10). In order to "look out" for God, we need only to open the door of our hearts and make room for Jesus who wants to reside with us." - Fr. Michael Harrington, Directorof Outreach and Cultural Diversity, Archdiocese of Boston
The Office of Persons
On December 7th at 11:30 A.M., the Office of Persons with disabilities is hosting a Mass in celebration of Persons with Disabilities and their families. Join us as we celebrate the year of the family and prepare our hearts for the coming of our Lord. For more information please visit: Mass with People with Disabilities and their families.
Apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe
On December 11th from 7:00pm - 11:00pm the Hispanic Apostolate will offer a cultural gathering and prayer service in recognition of the Apparitions of Our Lady in 1531 to Juan Diego (now St. Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin) on Tepeyac Hill near Mexico City. This annual celebration is being held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, 1400 Washington St, Boston, MA, and will include the reenactment of the Apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a serenade of songs and folkloric dances, concluding with Mass.
Parishes in the Archdiocese with a large Brazilian Catholic Community are gathering twice a week during Advent to pray a session of a novena and meditate on the coming of our Lord leading to Christmas. Each community has chosen its own days and times to pray the novena; anyone wishing to find out the schedule for novenas at the various parishes is welcome to visit the Brazilian apostolate website at: http://www.apostoladobrasileiro.com/comunidades/
We invite you to visit the Archdiocese of Boston Calendar of events page to learn more about the many Advent events, services and Masses taking place during this month leading up to Christmas: Boston Catholic Calendar.
